10 years younger is a tv show we have shown on channel 4 in the UK.
At the beginning of the program the person's age who is the subject on the show is guessed by 100 people off the street and an average is taken. After the average is taken a target image is set. And then at the end of the show this happens again to see the results.
This is partly done using cosmetic surgery.
This show is also done in Australia, Brazil, New Zealand and USA.
I find it interesting that on the before images they try and make the person look as bad as possible having no makeup on, not having there hair done and wearing a t-shirt. Then on the after images they are always dressed up and have a full face of makeup with there hair done up all nice. These are just a few examples of the kind of thing's they do to people on the show..
It did shock me seeing these images and the people in them do look good but they don't even look like the same people anymore, especially the last image she seems to have had a lot done thats made her not even look like herself anymore. I wonder what the people's families think of this? If my mum or dad changed her face that much I don't think that I would be happy because she wouldn't be herself anymore.. It's like she would have took changing her identity to the extreme. It takes myself a while to get used to a different hair colour, I can't imagine how long it would take to get used to a whole new face.
I think people would also be surprised seeing men on these kind of programs but I feel like over the past few years men have also become very body conscious of their image. With the media being a very big impact on them.
People are always going to find imperfections with themselves, everyone has something they don't like about themselves but once you start on the surgery when do you stop? People talk about getting addicted like people get with tattoo's and piercing's it's all about whether you want to start that cycle or not. I feel show's like this are encouraging people to do this.
